Vacation Recap ~ Rachel

I’m back!!! I got home Sunday evening and am still digging out from vacation and being away from home for a week. Here are some of the highlights of my trip:

The drive up

  • Beautiful weather, uneventful and consistent drivers (hooray for cruise control)
  • While I was stiff after so long in the car, I didn’t find myself squirming or getting achy. I will chalk that up to my weight loss and being somewhat in shape. Oh yeah, and my chiropractor.


  • Seeing most of my family, including my 2 year old niece Piper
  • Grandma’s chop suey
  • Meeting my friend Jackie for lunch at Ali Baba’s where I went nuts on a plate of hummus, baba ganoush, artichoke salad and a regular salad. It was called the Healthy Variety plate so I just went to town on it.
  • Watching Grandma get so excited about going to the new casino in Pittsburgh…and then watching our disappointment as we all “donated” some money to it
  • Hanging out with Mom in Squirrel Hill
  • Eating good Pad Thai two days in a row for lunch. I just can’t find good Pad Thai in Raleigh…it’s edible but it’s not Pad Thai from Bangkok Balcony in Squirrel Hill. Mom got an awesome pineapple curry there that I am going to have to try and recreate.
  • Having Chloe, my Mom’s giant furball of a cat, follow me around the whole time. I brought her freeze dried beef so she really likes me now.

Boardman, Ohio

  • Hanging out with my other family….no blood relation but Angela is like a sister to me and her kids call me Aunt Rachel. In fact, I heard “Hey Aunt Rachel” about a bagillion times in 3 days šŸ™‚
  • Toy Story 3 with Brennan…for being only 4, he was very well behaved. Plus the movie was totally awesome. Bring tissues. Yes, cartoons can make you cry too.
  • Shrek 4 with the kids…the movie wasn’t all that great but it’s fun to watch kids’ reactions to it.
  • Hanging out at Angela’s dance studio for an evening where the instructors kept dragging me onto the dance floor even though I insisted I didn’t know what I was doing. I was an epic fail on swing and salsa, managed a rumba alright and actually did pretty good on the tango.

The drive home

  • While the drive was mostly uneventful, nobody was very good about staying a consistent speed, especially through the mountains. That is such a pet peeve of mine. I resent the other drivers on the road when I have to come off of cruise control. I think I growled a lot on the way home.
  • I was sore and achy and ready to be out of the car about halfway through. I’ll chalk that up to a week of no exercise, 3 nights on an air mattress and 3 nights on a sofa bed.

I did not exercise (strolling around Squirrel Hill and doing a little dancing in Ohio doesn’t really count in my book), I didn’t track a single item of food that went into my mouth and I certainly ate some things that I wouldn’t normally eat (Grandma’s potato salad cannot be passed up). I didn’t go crazy and lose total control but you can bet I ate every last bite of Pad Thai at lunch, both times. I don’t feel guilty AT ALL about my eating or lack of exercise. I always knew I’d get back to it.

With all that though, I was a bit nervous to weigh-in this morning at my meeting. You’ll have to read my next post for my results.

Dr. Josh adjusted me yesterday morning. I now understand how people get hooked on their chiropractors! I skipped the gym because I had a thousand things to do and had a friend coming over to do work and then have dinner. This morning I woke up with a nasty headache so while I made it to my meeting, I skipped the gym.

Today, I’m back to tracking all my food. And tomorrow, I’m back to the gym!
